@jjhproduction check the pics included in the video… Like the one at 0:43 or the one at 4:47. Admittedly rather poor rigs! Still, even when using better rigs, the hook-up rate remains lower than one might expect…

most consider these trash fish these put up more of a fight than any bass or walleye

@JeromeMoisand using the knotless knot mate – pass the line through the eye from top down after threading the hook, makes the hook more aggressive (will now be at an angle to the line). The hook will turn into the fishes mouth with the point flipping onto the bottom lip. Will reduce the number of pick-and-spits. Amazing film btw.

@satremess er… it was a shitty rig, but it was a knotless knot… Albeit with a very supple line, hence no agressive turning. I’ve been pondering about this hook turning theory. It’s nothing but a nice theory… Nobody has seen what happens in the mouth of a carp, I guess. Can’t make my mind if this is accurate, even with the video. Interesting question…

absolutely, we can only speculate what happens inside the mouth, i imagine once swallowed the bait is pushed to the back of the throat where it is crushed, hence when it feels resistance from the rig it immediately spits the bait. this is where a hook turned to the underside of the mouth becomes effective, as the bait is expelled from the mouth the hook drags along the bottom lip -

nice vid! but when fishing on hard bothems like here use very short rigs so they wil cath hold much faster than your rigs are doing now thats one of the reasons they spit your rig out very quickly without getting hooked
